She
started up a singing group
She
called it “Find your voice”
I
didn’t think I had one
So I
really had no choice
But to
go along and find out
If that
squeak inside of me
Could
turn into a note
approaching
musicality
She
taught us where to put our hands
And how
to stand and sit
She
taught us how to breathe and hum
And make
a tune of it.
We also
learned to roll our R’s
And sing
a scale as well,
But how
to do them both at once
Is hard
for me to tell.
And then
we started singing,
Not in
time and not in tune,
Our
teacher must have wrung her hands
To
listen to us croon.
But now
its getting better,
We can
almost sing in time,
And
often we can hit the note
It’s
then it sounds just fine.
Before
we came we really thought
We
couldn’t sing a note,
But now
we’re quite surprised
At what
can issue from our throats!
We work
quite hard and have some fun
We’re
quite a jolly crew,
Our
thanks go out to Margaret,
Who has
shown us what to do.
