I wish to introduce myself as your new Chairperson.
As I’m certain you’re all aware, I volunteered for the role at the last minute and was chosen with many never having met me.
Who is She one might ask ?
Well, I moved here from Leicestershire 4 years ago as I decided I had grown weary of living in the Midlands, burdened by its extensive network of major roads, incessant traffic, and chaotic business environment. I wanted a calmer, quieter existence! I soon realised that Devizes and its surrounding villages aren’t that quiet. They have bustling and vibrant communities with a lot happening. What sets them apart for me is the fact that these communities have time to care for one another.
It is a special place and I am very happy I moved here.
Before moving I worked at local hospitals. I joined the Melton Mowbray U3A in 2016 and actively participated in various groups. I still maintain close friendships with some of those friends, which serves as a testament to the enduring nature of friendships that can be cultivated through the U3A.
I joined our branch of the U3A just two years ago. However, it has taken me a while to find groups to join, and this has been my main challenge. There’s so much happening in the area that I think I became overwhelmed.
I firmly believe in the ethos of U3A, which emphasises self-help by leveraging the vast experience and knowledge of its members to benefit everyone. Our motto, “Laugh, Learn, Live,” resonates more profoundly today than ever.
Over the coming months, I am excited about the opportunity to get to know each of you and collaborate with you to strengthen our community. Along with the committee we intend to grow and enhance our groups by making them even more accessible to all. Thus Devizes U3A will become even stronger.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Geoff for his unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership. Alongside the other committee members, he has accomplished an incredible feat, and I am truly grateful for the solid foundation they have laid. As he passes the baton to me, I am filled with excitement as we embark on this new chapter together. Thank you.
