Jeanette retired twelve years ago from her professional career as a Social Worker and lecturer in Safeguarding/Child Protection, after 30 years of employment with the local authority. She joined the U3A soon afterwards and became the Membership Secretary 10 years ago. Jeanette is ‘absolutely passionate’ about the U3A, especially the fact that membership eradicates loneliness. Something that makes her very happy is when someone bravely comes in to one of our monthly coffee mornings, nervous and unsure, and goes out again a couple of hours later, having met friendly, supportive members, made arrangements to meet again and to join (test out) some of the many groups available. Jeanette is a member of the Wednesday Walkers group, but sadly, too busy with voluntary work and a large family (eight grandchildren), to join any of the other groups currently.
