We have finished reading ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’, adapted from Muriel Spark’s novel which was great fun, though a bit dated. We reminisced about Maggie Smith’s performance in the film and struggled a bit with the Scottish accent. We are now reading ‘The Merchant of Venice’ – Shakespeare’s masterpiece about racism, money and love. One comment was: the speeches are so good, you want to read them twice. There is a hiatus at the Performing Arts library at the moment. All the stock has been moved to Chippenham, and although the librarians are doing their best to get things up and running, they are having to borrow stock from other counties. Hence, I can’t predict what we will be reading next. In the meantime, we will savour Shakespeare for at least another 2 months. This group is almost full now, but if you are interested in joining, please contact me asap.
